From March till May 2023 Prestigious ME Dubai Hotel, designed by the late Zaha Hadid, opened its doors to a solo exhibition The Lost Planet by Natalia Kapchuk. Over twenty mixed-media artworks, as well as digital and AR installations were featured in ME Dubai's dedicated gallery space and the hotel's stunning atrium.

The exhibition showcases a selection of artworks within the atrium, while the main display is located on the third floor gallery space. At the opening event guests had the privilege of viewing the latest pieces from The Lost Planet series, including Glacial Iridescence (2022) and Revenge of the Denali (2022), which reflect the artist’s thoughts on the severe consequences of climate change. Furthermore, Natalia Kapchuk‘s recent artworks, Fairytale Lands (2022), Earth or Mars? (2022), and Algae Bloom (2022), feature striking colors while adorning the gallery walls, catching the attention of visitors. The exhibition creates an immersive experience with the accompaniment of calming sounds of nature, allowing viewers to delve deeply into The Lost Planet‘s world.

More than 80 special guests, including art collectors, representatives from the global art community, media editors, and influencers, were drawn to the anticipated opening and vibrant VIP cocktail reception, which was also featured in the VIP events calendar by the leading contemporary art fair Art Dubai. Attendees were mesmerised by the captivating artworks from The Lost Planet series, which brilliantly depict the beauty and wonder of our planet. Those in attendance among the evening’s guests included a founder of PR&CO Luxury, Rosemin Madhavji, a TV presenter, founder of Arab Fashion Preneur and philanthropist Lara Tabet, and British artist Sacha Jafri among others.

Within the opening evening, Kapchuk delivered a passionate speech on the history of creating and artistic goals of The Lost Planet “[…] Of the many things I hold dear, the arts and mother Earth take up a large portion. When I think of our home here on this planet, I worry about the irreversible damage humanity has caused and what that means for its inhabitants and future generations. To bring light to such heartbreaking issues and to spread awareness of the growing concerns facing our planet, I use the power of my art to illuminate the worsening environmental crises while encouraging self-accountability and collective actions, instilling hope for a brighter future.”

Natalia Kapchuk’s solo show highlights her captivating designs and her use of various materials, exceptional techniques, and an eco-friendly approach, while also provoking thoughts on powerful subject matter regarding ecology. The exhibition showcases just half of the over forty environmentally-centered contemporary works from her series “The Lost Planet”, which she inaugurated in early 2019. Drawing inspiration from the expanses of the Sahara desert and the mounds of plastic littering the Pacific Ocean, among others, each artwork focuses on the innate beauty of nature, either in its entirety or shrouded in the consequences of climate change and human activity.

Kapchuk found it essential to implement eco-friendly applications to her physical art pieces, incorporating elements like reclaimed wood, up-cycled plastics, and plant-based techniques and materials. Moreover, the artist utilizes mediums such as tree bark, sand, stones, and fermented moss with polymers, resi-crete, gilding, metal chips, and more to contrast naturally resourced and industrial materials. Pushing her artistic approach further, the artist works with fiberglass construction, LED lighting, and digital and augmented designs, continually developing her signature style.

Artist Natalia Kapchuk serves as an ambassador for The Parliamentary Society of Arts, Fashion, and Sports (UK) and the Better World Fund (BWF), and is also a philanthropist who supports charities and organizations focused on protecting the environment. Her main artistic goal is to send a message of environmental awareness and sustainability. This sentiment takes center stage as her passion for creating captivating works of art lies beyond a mere means of expression but as an opportunity to make a difference. Kapchuk’s environmentally centered mixed-media artworks exemplify the unbridled beauty of our planet juxtaposed to the destructive forces of human activity and its impacts on our majestic lands and oceans.
