Artist and eco-activist Natalia Kapchuk joins star-studded lineup at the Global Citizen Forum

December 11th, 2023, Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates – Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, the Global Citizen Forum welcomed internationally acclaimed artist and environmentalist Natalia Kapchuk. In partnership with the Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA), and RAK Properties, the Global Citizen Forum’s second instalment in the ‘Butterfly Effect’ trilogy, Earth Age, opened its doors on Wednesday 6th December. During the Forum Natalia undertook a number of art, sustainability and philanthropy focused initiatives. This included hosting an exhibition of her artworks from ‘The Lost Planet’ series, drawing attention to crucial environmental issues, donating an artwork for a charity auction and announcing her support of a forest planting project together with the Nullker platform.

From 6th to the 7th December 2023, Natalia’s solo exhibition, showcasing selected artworks from “The Lost Planet” series, inspired hundreds of delegates. The exhibition explored the natural unicity of our precious planet juxtaposed which dire environmental concerns, caused by human impacts. The show was comprised of eight art pieces, including “Carbon Clouds” (2020), “Ocean’s DNA” (2019), “Man-made Island” (2019), “Virgin Rocks” (2019), and other creations.

Natalia Kapchuk’s artwork “The Vanishing Antarctica” (2019) was sold for $50,000 at the charity auction, held during The Global Citizen Forum Gala night. Proceeds from the auction will support the Yusra Mardini Foundation and the Global Citizen Cultural Centre for Youth, as well as other initiatives, helping to amplify the voices of marginalized communities.

A number of Natalia’s artworks have previously been offered for auction in aid of charities, and the funds raised have been directed to charitable projects in support of sustainability. Natalia has also taken active steps towards environmental causes by personally supporting the One Tree Planted reforestation project, becoming a supporter of this green initiative to bring its story and other sustainable initiatives of the Nullker eco platform to a wider audience.

The topic of the carbon footprint left by humanity, as well as the restoration of the natural “lungs of the planet,” is now more relevant than ever. Due to massive deforestation for the sake of agriculture and urban development, the Earth is losing almost 100 million trees every year. Natalia shares the modern environmental agenda through art – a language that is understandable and accessible to most people, helping spread its message. Through her personal actions, Natalia leads by example through a strategy of small steps towards a global goal, urging people to join and follow her example, in true spirit of the Global Citizen Forum.

“I harness the influence of my artistic endeavours to illuminate the deepening environmental crises. Simultaneously, I strive to foster a sense of personal responsibility and collective action, igniting optimism for a more promising tomorrow,” – said artist Natalia Kapchuk.

“Speaking about ecology in the language of art, we want to draw public attention to environmental problems without conflicts and ultimatums. The main idea we want to convey is: with common efforts we can fix everything,” – added Viktor Khodanov, Founder of Nullker eco platform.

The collaboration “Art & Sustainability: Kapchuk & Nullker” involves supporting various environmental projects around the world and will include joint public actions and initiatives in the field of art, where such support has enhances the global idea of saving the planet.

The Global Citizen Forum hosted many influential participants and guests including Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, UAE Supreme Council Member Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi; UAE Minister of Tolerance Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan; news anchor for CNN International and editor-at-large of CNN Business Richard  Quest, and the winner of the Global Citizen Award, world’s leading comedian Russell Peters.
