Artist and eco-activist Natalia Kapchuk is continuing her creative journey in the studio by advancing The Lost Animals series, which spotlights endangered species featured on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List.
Kapchuk shares:
“With each passing day, my sculptures seem to come to life. From silhouettes on paper and in digital programs, they evolve into tangible works of art. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that each piece carries a powerful message about animal protection, sea stars, and wildlife issues affecting IUCN Red Listed marine species.”
This compelling project serves as a call to action, with each sculpture symbolizing a unique species while advocating for its preservation. Kapchuk’s work is informed by years of meticulous research into the habitats and life histories of endangered marine creatures. Her dedication is evident in the intricate craftsmanship of each piece, created with materials such as recycled fiberglass, flocking techniques, hand detailing, and electroplating.
Through her vividly detailed sculptures, Kapchuk captures the fragile beauty of these species while highlighting the severe threats they face due to human activities, including commercial fishing, poaching, and pollution. These works underscore the degradation of marine ecosystems and emphasize the interconnectedness of all life, inspiring collective action to combat the environmental crisis.
