Natalia Kapchuk’s Sculpture “From Great to Gone” Exhibits at RSA Annual Exhibition — OPEN ART 2025

From May 3 to June 8, 2025, artist and environmental advocate Natalia Kapchuk presents her artwork “From Great to Gone” (2023) as part of the prestigious RSA Annual Exhibition — OPEN ART 2025. Hosted by the Royal Scottish Academy of Art and Architecture in Edinburgh, this landmark event celebrates its 199th edition as Scotland’s largest and longest-running showcase of contemporary art and architecture.

The featured artwork “From Great to Gone”, a wall-mounted 3D sculpture from Kapchuk’s newest The Lost Animals series, spotlights the Great White Shark (Carcharodon carcharias) — one of the ocean’s most iconic yet increasingly endangered species. The artpiece is meticulously crafted from recycled fiberglass and completed with silver, pink, and black chrome electroplating, the sculpture embodies both ecological urgency and refined aesthetic form, inviting reflection on the fragile state of marine biodiversity under threat from climate change.

“From Great to Gone” expresses the critical moment we face in protecting marine predators like the Great White Shark. Its presence is essential to ocean health, and yet its future remains uncertain.
